I currently have eight diaryland diaries bookmarked. I read two of
them frequently. One I read because she's always cheery and it
cheers me up too, the other I read because I like the way he
writes and because I've read it for ages already.
Of the six remaining ones, one I don't read at all (because it's
never updated) and the remaining five I read occasionally,
browsing through the (latest) entries in a hurry without reading
most of what is written. Nevertheless, I bookmarked them because
I thought they were interesting and I still do, which is why I
feel somewhat guilty for not reading them more carefully.
Excluding those diaryland diaries I have 124 other bookmarks. I think it's needless to say that some of them I haven't visited since I bookmarked them. They're often places I thought were interesting but didn't have either the concentration or time (or both) to explore properly. Unfortunately, I often have no interest in exploring those places even when I would have the time.
About one third of the
bookmarks are 'useful' pages, the ones with information about
usenet II or internet in general or how to travel somewhere in
Germany or how to kill myself or where to buy that book on-line
or how to dress 'gothic'. You know, places that I need the minute
I finally have the interest in getting to know more about
internet or when I have to find out how to get from Hamburg to Münich
or where to buy cool gothic clothes when I finally start dressing
like a 'proper' goth.
Occasionally I get rid of the most unused of this kind of
bookmarks because I get sick of the amount of my bookmarks and
because I know it's pretty easy to relocate them if I need them
again.
A few of the bookmarks are
like The Brunching Shuttlecocks or A Different Kind of Greatness, that are useless but occasionally
amusing. They include all sorts of on-line ramblings and reviews
on all sorts of things. I rarely visit them and very seldomly
bother to explore them properly.
Some of these bookmarks are quite old because I never want to get
rid of them. They're too amusing.
Then there is the vast amount of personal pages. Mostly they're diary-type of things but there are other funny ones also included. Without hesitation I can say that the most important of my bookmarks are the personal pages. They're pages I've took a likening to and I almost never know the person at all. I don't e-mail them, usually, even if I might want to, I don't sign their guestbooks. I just read them, for ages (I'm a stalker like that). Some of the personal pages that I have are just links to blank pages because a lot of the people have disappeared from the face of the net for various reasons. I also have a few pages linked that give me an 404. I don't dare to give up on them because I'm hoping the people would come back. Sometimes this happens but not often; the sidicate came back, for example, (although all the content I used to adore is gone now...) and Chaos_Pixie started updating again after two years of silence.
The personal pages are the most important ones. I rarely dare to give up on them even if I get 404 for months. This is partly because sometimes I just forget I have those pages bookmarked and that they give an error and partly because I've grown used to the people I never knew. They're often links to my past, as well, having them linked, even if I don't read them, makes me feel more connected to the human kind (it's that sad... ). To be honest, if I wasn't this lazy I would have given up on most of the lost pages. It just seems like that the longer I have something bookmarked, the harder it is to ditch it.
Mostly the bookmars are
less than a year and a half old because a year and half ago the
computer crached. Some of my links are older, like The Vigil, which I re-located after the crash.
I lost most of my earlier bookmarks though, because I either
forgot what they were or because I couldn't find them again.
I'm a bit bitter about that, sometimes. If anyone knows where to
find that guy who played violin, lived in New york and had a
message board on his page, let me know. He had something to do
with strawberries, if that helps...
