| if our bodies were transparent,
we would be dead simply from the fact that many foods contain a certain
yellow dye. in the united states of america, this dye is fd&c
yellow 13. when placed in sunlight, the dye goes through a chemical
reaction in absorbing something from the sun (i'm not going to pretend
i understand the chemistry/biology behind it), expanding and creating gas.
eventually, this causes whatever the dye is in to rupture, releasing the
gas. fd&c yellow 13 is used as a pesticide here, bursting the
see-through bodies of many fruit-flies and other small insects. i
find it interesting how we use one thing to kill a "pest" and use it again
to make our food items "pretty."
i was thinking today about how different i would be at this moment if i wasn't living next to someone i was comfortable with. in other words, cut off from every source of communication and friendship that i had available to me at this university. most likely, i would regress to what i was in early high school, an angry, depressed introvert, even moreso than i am today. i would probably have alot more free time, as cutting out small bits of socializing would free up much time. i'd study more, perhaps, and most likely write more as well, especially in my "secret" computerized diary, which has been gathering digital dust since i stopped recording anything it, sometime around junior year of high school. i suppose i'm getting a bit reminiscient and focused on the past, and i'm not sure why. i wasn't any smarter, more insightful, or likable. but, music doesn't seem to affect me the same way it did back in those early days, where a simple listen to i care because you do would evoke dreams of other worlds, and the more lyrical albums bring back moments that had meaning to me, good or bad, the music intensified everything. it still does today, i suppose, just not to the degree it did then. i want that back. i had a daydream today where a friend and myself decided to hunt one another across the nation (with guns that shot plastic bullets of course). it was fun, and the thrill of the showdown was always present. we decided to permanently leave clues as to our whereabouts, such as a threatening phone call from a location, as well as traces of our whereabouts to locals, but not much more than that. the thrill of travel with a motivation was able to keep the routine and boredom away from life for several months. it was potentially the most gratifying daydream i have had in quite some time. the weather looks appealing this week: low 60 degrees Farenheit on average. cold enough for long sleeves, but not cold enough to numb me further when i walk to classes. it's pathetic when i have to look at the weather to make me even remotely care about something. |
