wishing i was home alone
yesterday i got annoyed with everything at home, in particular the people. i tried to abandon them, to hide in a corner of the house, away from their noise/clamor, away from their influence. but wherever i went, after a few minutes, a sibling or parent would arrive and begin to occupy the same space. this went on for a rather comedic amount of time until i finally gave up and just sat in my room, listening to all their annoying white noise filter through the walls and into my mind.
i was reminded of the beginning of home alone, where a young macaulay culkin proclaimed that when he grew up, he'd live alone. in the movie, he was abandoned, and found contentment and even happiness in his newfound relative isolation. it was not until his well-being was threatened that he even bothered to recall those who would normally be living with him. what does this say about man's relationship to his surroundings? even at a young age i/we realize the desire for independence, and true independence stems only from total isolation. through solitude, i interpret home alone to have a deeper hidden meaning. in desire for aloneness, i can relate to the protagonist from the movie.
