there's this song from the soundtrack to a movie entitled 'soldier in the rain' that consists of about six piano notes, yet it's quite possibly one of the more "moving" arrangement of six notes that's come from a hollywood movie, in my opinion. my father had me listen to this soundtrack. that's how i heard the song.
my father is a classically trained pianist. we have a simple piano that sits as the focal point in one of the rooms in my home. he only plays there at certain times these days, such as when he's bored, tired, or possibly inspired. he's composed a few songs himself, which are rather good in my opinion. simple, yet heartfelt, surprisingly melancholic from a man who seems to have lived a happy life, i suppose. i've tried to get him to record them, i imagine i have the ability to set up a recording unit to the piano, or book an hour or so in a studio for him. but although he doesn't refuse, i get the idea he has no intention to record them. he's never written the notes down on sheet music, and only one other person knows how to play one of the few he's written. my sister, also being a classically trained pianist (though not to the extent of my father) can play the first song he ever wrote. i have an uneasy feeling that when he dies, anything that he's created will go along with him. i find it disheartening at the least. i'd like to see him leave his mark on the ages. i've been lucky to have a father like him.
