is all good rock music mainstream? i can't seem to find a non-big name rock album that i really enjoy these days. everything else tends to be this overly whinge-ridden 'my girlfriend doesn't understand me' junk that i can't relate to at all. am i still juvenille in that i think the new marilyn manson album is better than any pop-rock combination i've heard in somet ime? the new radiohead album was supposed to be some groundbreaking something or another, but who knows wh at it was really supposed to be; it got lost in all its hype. if i see one more 'radiohead is the god of rock' page/headline/etc i think i'll start a fund to stop all musical criticism, because everyone who reviews something rarely seems to put any effort into learning what they're writing about. ok, so the new radiohead album manages to blend electronic melodies into many of its songs. this is groundbreaking? not if you've listened to anything 'electronic' since 1991.

everybody wants some rockstar idol to their music as well. after all, music is all about image and not substance. let's all go to the rock concert so we can make eye contact with the dreamy lead singer, sing along to the one song we know, and afterwards try and grab an autograph or some memorabilia from the night.
should it be a surprise that one of the more intelligent albums of this year is by the old media sensation, while the new critical and commercial darlings put out something much less...impressive.
end of rant.
